Volunteers Needed ---

Working with the dying is a unique opportunity to share in the final journey that we all must take. Volunteers are needed for two of our projects: the music project and the respite project.

Volunteers with the music project must play an instrument and be willing to visit the hospital and make nursing home visits. Volunteers will go through a training program that will discuss issues of death and dying as well as the special role of music in this setting. Time commitment is variable.  Volunteers who wish to participate with Hospice and make house calls will need additional Hospice training.

Volunteers for the respite project must be willing to sit with and attend the dying in the final stages. This may entail some hands on care--offering ice chips, handholding, applying cool compresses or hand lotion-- or simply involve sitting and being there for the semi/unconscious person in the last hours of life to insure that there is no physical need that goes unmet.

Volunteers will go through a training program focused on this aspect of hospice care and will be asked to serve at nursing facilities and/or the hospital for variable blocks of time.
